Wave Rock

This is a granite formation near Hyden, Western Australia. The photo would have much less impact if the people were not in the foreground. I was fortunate that they were there; I do not know them, they were not with us.

The wave shape of the rock is due to weathering at some time in the distant past when this area of the granite outcrop was below ground level.

There are a number of similar granite formations around the states of Western Australia and South Australia, but this, I believe, is the most spectacular example of a 'wave' in stone.

It is a bit out of the way, being 4-500km east of Perth and more than 100km from any large town; but well worth a visit if you are travelling from Perth to Esperance.
