This photo was taken at Mission Bay in San Diego during the annual 4th of July fireworks show. The key to getting a photo like this is a long exposure (like 6-10 seconds), and covering up the lens between bursts so that you are only exposing during the good parts. Otherwise you end up with too many streaks and a photo that is too bright. It takes a lot of practice and trial and error. I was at ISO 100 and f/7.1 for this.
