Just a few yards up river from the previous photo.

There is an old-weathered log, just around the corner, which makes the perfect seat to sit and watch the river tumbling past. Always so peaceful and calming.

I've blown the highlights a little, so I will just have to go back and try again with a slightly faster shutter speed / maybe experiment with the camera's built in ND filter.

This crystal-clear stream, flanked with mossy boulders and lush ferns, tumbles down into the East Okement Valley to the south east of Okehampton. I often wander up this valley at lunch time listening to the chatter of birdsong and the babbling water.

The perfect escape, any time of the year, although best enjoyed when the trees are in leaf as you get some amazing sunlight through the tree canopy and cascading drifts of wild Bluebells in mid-late Spring.

Ideal for deer and squirrels - not so easy for us though with all those brambles and mossy logs (which is probably a good thing, as some parts of the wood should remain off-limits).

Sorry - I couldn't resist grabbing this as the number rolled over to show all 5's ... not a bad start to my new Flickr account (active for just 3 months).
