12 of 12 Normal Monday: Bare Back-up
6:50PM: For the last several years I've been backing-up on to bare hard drives through either a pair of Wiebetech TrayDocks (which appear to have been discontinued) or a Newer Technologies USB to PATA/SATA adapter. The TrayDocks have been wonderful and provide some great cooling, but the USB to PATA/SATA adapter doesn't have any means to keep the drives cool. As a result I burned out a drive during a 400GB back-up of the Cache-A-Maniacs archive drive. The fix is to use one of the newer SATA drive docks. So I ordered up the new NewerTech Voyager Q and a replacement 500GB hard drive which arrived today (see the photo from 1:19PM). Shortly after returning home from dinner I connected the dock to the Server and formated that new drive. I may now resume my normal back-up activity.
