i know it looks like nothing special. and perhaps you're right. (if it weren't for the flickr effects then i'm certain it wouldn't look like much of anything)

BUT, here i was.. standing there in the middle of the beach minding my own business when i looked up and noticed this bird hovering in one spot. literally just flying in one spot. no, i'm not kidding. he just flapped his wings in one spot.. for like a whole minute... strangest thing. he didn't fly forward or backward, upside down or diagonally. he didn't make a 90 degree bank. or swoop at anything in the water. he stayed in one spot. literally. and he did that more than once. just stayed in one spot.

wait, i guess it's not as amazing as i thought, huh .. hummingbirds do that. and i am sure there are others. but this one i have never seen before. what kind of bird was he? what was he doing? maybe he was the new kid in town. trying to show off. or get approval from the nearby .. um, seashells? or me? maybe he needed approval from me. ha!

anyway, why am i writing so much about this bird? well, because he caught my attention. and because i liked him. that's why.

use it in a sentence... or four...

no, not just a big foot... but a large foot.

while wandering around the island enjoying the sunshine. but i froze my ass off doing so. i'm gonna need to be more prepared for cold weather than this.
