eStIMULACIONES urbanas 9: August 29 2005

El 29 de Agosto es monumento y provocación buscando construir otra historia, otro recuerdo de lo que sucedió cuando los diques se rompieron en New Orleans y el Huracán Katrina transito por la costa del golfo estadounidense en 2005. El busto honorífico de George W. Bush es apropiado, modificado y reposeido en una narrativa ceremonial para conmemorar el suceso ocurrido bajo su mandato.

"Cara negra" (Blackface) es un maquillaje originario en estados unidos en representaciones que ejecutaban estereotipos racistas. Utilzado mayoritariamente por blancos las actuaciones bajo "cara negra" jugaron un papel importante generando imagenes y aptitudes racistas que permearon la cultura popular.

August 25 is monument and provocation seeking to built up another history, another memory of what happened when the levies broke in New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina made its way through the US Gulf Coast. The bust honoring George W. Bush is appropriated, modified, and repossessed in a ceremonial narrative to commemorate the event that happened under his administration.

"Blackface" is make up that originated in the United States used in performances that executed racist stereotypes. Used primarily by whites, the blackface performances played a critical role gnerating images and racist attitudes that permeated popular culture.

"The good news is - and it’s hard for some to see it now - that out of this chaos is going to come a fantastic Gulf Coast, like it was before. "
