We call their offices at 4 PM, scamming our way past the receptionist in English ("Hi, I'm calling for my friend Wang Dan."). Oh, foreigner, he must be a friend of Wang Dan. Transfer. "This is Dan" "Hi Dan, how are you today?" "Fine. Hello. Do I know you?" "Dan I am calling to ask you if you if you would like to maximize your financial position while living overseas" "Ummm, do I know you?" "Dan, can we set up a meeting to talk about this? Tomorrow at 3" "Look, I'm not interested." SLAM. First they steal your identifty, then they try to take more. When this company is shut down, they will open a new company in your name promoting cross-straits relationships. The basic scam will be calling Taiwanese at home and saying "Your child has been kidnapped from school. Do not tell anyone. Go to the post office and send me 2 million NT immediately. Say nothing or your child dies." The beauty is that the perpetrators are in a phone bank in a Shanghai apartment where the Taiwanese authorities have no recourse. Who would have ever thought that the editor of our favorite Shanghai rag was into all of those illegal businesses. Shocking. S. Sky
