The smiley sky

Numerous other people have taken pictures of tonight's Moon/Venus/Jupiter "smiley face" conjunction, but this is the one I took from Echo Point in Katoomba on behalf of a person who was there with a compact camera that couldn't get the shot.

When I got back to Echo Point with my big camera, I couldn't help but notice more hapless compact-camera flashes being directed into the uncaring night. So two people are actually being notified by e-mail of the existence of this page.

It was a little hazy, so this isn't technically the best shot it could be. But this is what it looked like when we were there.

(If you're going to download it, make sure to get the big version.)
