Kinmen 金門

Kinmen, a cruel war zone between Taiwan and China in 1950s, and turn into a golden gate by little-three-links* in 2000s.
Although it is just a small island on the Fujian coast, Kinmen has a unique geographical location and historical position.
Kinmen is located at the junction of Jiulong River and Xiamen Island of Mainland China. Besides the main island, there are 15 more islands including Lieyu, Dadan, with a total area of 150 square kilometers. Kinmen is wider in the east and west, and narrow towards the center; it is shaped like a butterfly...
It's my first assignment to take pictures in Kinmen from May 21 to 25, 2007...

"little-three-links" are direct trade, transportation and communication links between the People's Republic of China's Fujian province and the islands of Kinmen (Quemoy) and Matsu, which are administered by Taiwan, the Republic of China. Activity via this "Mini Links" has grown rapidly since they were created in 2001, but it remains only a small part of overall trade...
"little-three-links"; 2001年1月2日早上九時「小三通」首航,「金厦通航参訪團」兩艘輪船從金門料羅灣出發,太武號在前、浯江號在後,順利於十一時五十分抵達中國大陸廈門和平碼頭。這是近50多年台灣和中國大陸之間的第一次合法的直接通航。
