- This is the highest point in the North Sea - and I spent a whole day there getting the flare tip to work! And it did - so the chopper pilot did a circuit of the rig for us to get a good view.
- Accomodation module, where I lived for a week while on the rig - conveniently placed under the helipad
- Chris only got this far before his fear of heights kicked in!
- This is the original flare, which doesn't have an electrical ignition - instead they light it using a flare pistol...but not on a windy day!
- Neighbours....
- Mr Exxon-Mobil claims to make zero emissions to the sea...is that a small oil film I see or what?!

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Revolve towards zero emissions, and we'd love to have your photo added to the group. 10 prizes to be won (EU residents only I'm afraid).
Revolve run eco-vehicle rallies to champion efforts made by the motor industry to tackle carbon-emissions.

You're welcome to use it - it's good (and suitably ironic) if you can use it to help promote our need to reduce carbon emissions.

Hey fantastic shot! How did you manage to get on the rig in the first place? I'm a filmaker interested in doing a documentary on oil rigs, it would be helpful if you could tell me how you managed to stay at the rig.Thanxs

I got to visit the rig while working for a company that supplied flare tips - my job while there was to supervise the repair of the flare tip ignition system - it wasn't a holiday! However, I'd recommend visiting a rig if you get the chance. And the offshore training that you need to do beforehand is also a great experience, as long as you like being underwater!

Hi, I worked with you on the Skene Flare on Beryl Alpha summer 2004ish.
Well its knacked again, so we'll have to get our climbing boots on in September to carry out more repairs.

Good to hear from you - not really suprised it's not working, the final connections always seemed a bit heath-robinson when you consider the extremes of weather and temperature it has to endure. Another 'great' Birwelco design....
