By Greenhawks Head Coach, Jim Gagen: The Greenhawks healed up throughout the week in an-ticipation of their matchup with the undefeated Orangehawks. In what was bound to be a tough mid season challenge the Greenhawks practiced hard all week, led by the fierce play of lineman Nick Morsics. Feeding off of Nick’s tenacious hardnosed practice habits the Greenhawks were ready to go.
The Greenhawks managed to get a quick touchdown by RB Lucas Butler which allowed the Greenhawks defense to gamble on some defensive plays. Unfortunately some of those gambles and aggressive play also led to a few defensive penalties that allowed the Orangehawks to march down the field. Facing 1st and goal the Greenhawks stepped up to the plate with play by CB’s Jesse Bratman and Blinn Atchley that shutdown the momentum gained by the Orangehawks.
The Greenhawks offense then saw another big play from Trenton Burrows that resulted from the rock solid line play of Lars Krabbe and center Sam Morsics.
This led to another score putting up the Greenhawks 12-0.
Knowing that no lead was safe against the potent offense of the Orangehawks the defense looked to hun-ker down. The Orangehawks came to play though and the Greenhawks defense watched them march down the field for a quick score getting it back to 12-6. Greenhawks QB Mikey Carlsen managed the field well with a few solid plays to Bryce Gagen and Johnny Eaton but it was the Greenhawks defense that would have to make the last stand.
In a last offensive effort the Orangehawks were driving down the field but the mesmerizing defensive play by Joseph Cardella who was last seen charging across the field to stop the Orangehawks on a crucial 4th down play to give the Greenhawks the ball one last time.
In a super trick play to end the game, the Greenhawks unveiled the elusive RB Andrew D’Agostino on an end around run play that fell just short of breaking open the game. In the end, the score stood at 12-6 with a Green-hawk victory. It was a solid win in a nail biter that saw the Greenhawks gaining momentum heading toward playoff time.
