Laptop\GPS Car Stand by daniel.mcg.
I wanted to do a GPS nav screen in my car, but I didn't have an in dash system. But I did have an old laptop..hmmmm. What if, I used this as an excuse to use by brothers welder to create a little stand so I can use GPS software on the laptop while I drive.

Materials:
1) About a foot of 1 inch square steel pipe.
2) An old music stand shelf.
3) About 2 feet of water heater copper tubing.
4) A couple of connectors.

Is that water heater copper tubing flexible at all, or is it bent before installation?

Edit-- I read that it is flexible. Sorry about that.

Nice build. Watch out about moving that tubing too much though - at a certain extreme of bend it will crimp. Probably doesn't matter for small movements but for larger movements you can buy tube bender, which is really nothing more than a coil spring that goes around the tube and prevents it from deforming too much.

I don't think that copper pipe will hold up very well over time. More importantly though you need to add something to support the LCD when the laptop is open/in use. After a few bumps the LCD hinges will get overly stressed and worn and the screen will start flopping around.

Nice job. I like how you used the pre-existing seat mount holes.

cool idea when I thought of it a few months ago, check out a very similar mount using the existing seat mount holes. The most expensive part was the metric bolts for my car.
