I'm NOT Addicted to Pete's Fish & Chips

I'm NOT Addicted to Pete's Fish & Chips by Daniel Greene.
With all the "I'm Addicted to Pete's Fish & Chips!" bumper stickers I've seen around the Valley, I would have thought I was missing out on a local legend (having never been to one myself).

I'll tell you a little secret though: those bumper stickers are free! If people had to pay for them, I don't think there would be so many.

I was starving after work yesterday, and here I was sitting in the drive-thru of Pete's on 27th Ave & Van Buren, so I thought I'd take a commemorative shot of my first time at one of the legendary Pete's. But I'm telling you the morning after driving the food home and eating it, it's just a greasy mess! It's not delicious or special or anything. It's just over-greasy rectangular slabs of fried fish on top of over-greasy shoestring fries. So, I don't love Pete's Fish & Chips; in fact, I don't even like them!

P.S. I blogged this.

I like this shot! There's something about it that puts me there in the parking lot too. Plus you've got the Gila Fire looming in the background as well. Thanks for the heads up on the fish and chips.

You're right about the Gila Fire; it's very timely, yet I took it for granted.

I still like how you captured life around the fire. The fire is there and people live their lives. That's why I appreciate this shot.

I haven't eaten there in probably 25 years Daniel, but growing up in Phoenix and going to Arcadia High School, the Pete's at 44th and Indian School was a lunchtime staple and quite good back then. I hope you just ate at a "bad one."

It wasn't "bad," Steve; it just wasn't that good. And it certainly wasn't addictive! One thing I look for in a restaurant is a reason to come back, be it a certain sauce, dish, dessert, bread, cracker... something special that I can't get elsewhere. There was no such thing at Pete's, so I really have no reason to return. I'd much rather have fish & chips elsewhere on the rare occasion I'm in the mood for them.

Heh...my thoughts exactly on Pete's Fish & Chips. When I moved here and saw all the bumper stickers, I thought I was missing out on something incredible. Then I went to through the drive-thru at the one on Indian School & 44th and got my foil box of glorified fish sticks.

"That's it?" I thought when I opened the cover. Add limp, soggy fries and you've got yourself a major let-down.

Bah.

I TOTALLY AGREE with you!! I tried it once in Glendale and was expecting authentic British fish & chips ..... it was really disappointing.
