The value of a dollar

$10,316. That's how much money Fat Smitty's diner in Discovery Bay, WA took off the walls and donated to the local Boy Scouts and Saint Judes this past January before the winter break. The money that overwhelms the small establishment started showing up over 25 years ago, when a traveling salesman pinned a dollar bill to the ceiling with his name on it-thus a tradition was born. The local USMC themed eatery has been around since 1985, when former Marine Carl “Fat Smitty” Schmidt started making the local legendary burgers and is has over time become a true piece of Americana located on the remote Olympic Peninsula of the state.

President's Day, Whidbey Island. A Bison farm near Oak Harbor, WA has work hands calling in the herd for feeding time at the end of the day while most Americans enjoy the day off in recognition of the United States presidents, specifically George Washington.
