run away

railroad tracks have always been my symbol of escape. i would walk along them, sometimes in the very dead of night, silence and the oily smell of the metal filling my head, drowning out my restlessness. sometimes i would run, skipping from tie to tie. a train would come, and i would crouch in trees nearby, hands covering my ears, waiting for the earth's shuddering to stop. and i'd be alone again.
