Where did you get this loveseat? Could you
tell us something about it? It looks like it
could be Chinese from about 150 years ago.
There was a fellow in Norwich, CT who years
ago had warehouses full of old furniture like
this. He is long dead and I wish I could
recall his name. He was quite well known
among collectors. He owned blocks of
warehouses that one day mysteriously burned.
There was a story about him years ago in
Yankee Magazine. I believe he owned the most
antiques of any single American, over 12
million items, as I recall. Anyway, I
visited his warehouses several times in the
early 70's. He had the most beautiful
stuffed great horned owl that I wanted. He
wanted $200 for it, and it was well worth
that, but in 1970, I didn't have $200. I
tried talking him down and he was willing to
take a tiny bit off, but he said it was
illegal to stuff these owls now and so that
is what made this particular owl so valuable.
Instead, I bought some old clay marbles he
had for five dollars.
So, Sas, if you would, tell us about this
lovely piece of furniture. And don't say it
is from Pier One cuz I know better. If you
prefer, send me a flickr mail.
Thank you for your lovely story and for
showing such kind interest in my furniture at
home :)
I discovered this seat on the internetshop
from Wereldse Pracht. I will collect some information from the
shopowner.....but I don't think it is that
old because I paid 375,- euro for it.
And although we don't live in the 70's
anymore that is still a lot of money for me
hihi
Take care my friend and you will hear from me
soon.
