47290 (D1992) removes an errant 47509 (D1953) "ALBION" from a Holyhead-Euston service at Crewe on the 9th September 1990.

class 47/3 No.47349 (D1830) is en-route for Southampton Docks, as it passes Eastleigh, on the 30th August 1989. 47349 is now owned by First Great Western as Thunderbird loco 57603 "TINTAGEL CASTLE".

47406 (D1505) waits at Leeds with the 13:02 Leeds - Carlisle service on Saturday 5th August 1989. The loco had previously been named "RAILRIDERS", however, had lost its nameplates to class-mate 47488. New build 91005 is in the adjacent platform waiting to propel the 13:10 Leeds - King's Cross service.

Preston's stabling point, known as Ladywell sidings, held 47501 (D1944) "CRAFTSMAN" and class 31/4 No.31442 (31251, D5679) on Saturday 13th August 1989. 47501 is still in use in 2012 owned by DRS, whilst 31442 was withdrawn in September 1993 and cut-up at CF Booth's of Rotherham in September 2004.

47973 (97561, 47561, 47034, D1614) "MIDLANDS COUNTIES RAILWAY 150 1839-1989", in lined maroon livery, passes Crewe with new build 90011 "THE CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF TRANSPORT" in tow at Crewe on the 18th August 1989. Departmental loco 47973 was named in honour of the Midland Counties Railway for one year only, during the railway's centenary, and instead became "THE DERBY EVENING TELEGRAPH" in May 1990. The loco was withdrawn in August 1996 and cut-up at Crewe Works in February 1997.
