my grandparents, me, 1978

my grandparents, me, 1978 by cybermelli.
now, you're probably asking yourself, is melissa part african american?

the answer, my friends, or so i am told, is no.

my grandfather was, apparently, 100% italian. but, he looks black if you ask me.... !

so, unless i see some written proof, i don't think we know for sure! (not that it matters to me!)

and, check out my grandmother's hair.

i kid you not, when i was about 10 years old, a cicada got stuck in her hair and both she and i had a nervous breakdown b/c it was impossible to find and get out... true story!

Wow, that hair is cool! O.o I love the cicada story ^-^So hilarious.

Your grandfather actually looks really "Italian" to me :) People from the very south of Italy tend to have pretty dark skin.

i think i would have changed my hairstyle after that..rofl! Your grand father reminds me of the dark skinned Italian men i remember seeing when i went to Germany as a child to visit my grandparents.(my parents immigrated to the US before my brother and i were born) My Opa Karl's family is from the southern part of Germany near Italy and has very dark skin too

Yeah, that's Italian - my husband's dad's side is SUPER Italian. What's freaky is the blue eyes.

I was going "Ah, Italian granddad", and got confused when you started writing about being African American. Like others have commented, he looks genuinely Italian! Grandma looks like a first generation Barbie, very stylish! :D

hah, okay, well, it seems that only my sister and i thought our grandfather was black -- that's okay though, we were like 5 years old when we came up with that theory!

which reminds me of my best friend Nicole when I was 5. She seem to still think up until now that she needs to keep on pointing all the time when she's dancing, just because my big cousin taught us so back then. Be careful what 5 year-olds get ideally locked-into

Hey, I swear I didn't follow!

lol, okay, that is so so funny! poor thing! didn't she figure out, after all these years, that no one always points when they dance? except maybe in 70s disco movies? hehe!

We have a running joke about my grandfather being African American, too! He's 100% Polish (allegedly), and apparently in the south of Poland people get HELLA dark when they tan. Enter my grandfather. Which is strange, because my brother and I can't tan for the LIFE of us. We're the whitest people you'll ever see.

And your grandmother's hair is possibly the most awesome thing I've ever seen.

Your grandma has that old-school beehive! That was RARE in the 70s unless you were from the south.

hehe, that's great, i love hearing other people's stories!

yeah, my grandmother had this hair till like......... 1999 or something. it went from red to white blonde in the 80s and stayed that way till she got too old to bother maintaining it... she's not in the greatest health these days.

Heyy! I like the hair. If she was my neighbor I definitely am having coffee with her. I love stories of the yesteryears.
