Salvador Dali had an Ocelot as a pet

While many baby animals are adorable as infants, what people don't realize is wild cats mark their territory. With urine. They will mark, floors, walls, chairs, couches, beds, counters, sinks, etc. It's not they don't housebreak, but their instinct for territory is so strong that nothing is sacred. Ocelots are not very tractable as adutls. For such a 'small' wild cat, they are quite powerful and can inflict dangerous if not lethal wounds. They were quite popular in the 1960's and many were killed because they became....wild cats.

If you love wild cats, support Big Cat Rescue in Florida. They take in many homeless large (and small) cats.

egatopardo is correct... owning a wild animal is a challenge that should be left to professionals. Photographs allow you to enjoy them guilt-free! Remember that these animals are important parts of their ecosystems; removing them from their proper place is to be avoided.

I share my home with two Ocicats, who are completely domestic cats ( bred from Siamese & Abisinian) but look a bit like Ocelots. They are calm, unique, loving, amazing animals. They are not wild. Yes, I bought them from a breeder because I fell in love with the breed. HOWEVER, one has asthma and a heart murmur, at 4 years old they both had horrible dental issues that left them without most of their teeth. I have learned that I will not support breeding of animals and will only adopt homeless pets in the future. Enjoy wild animals through their photos. Support Big Cat Rescue in Florida or any rescue that is in your area. There are many. Some let you visit.

When I first saw the photo, I thought: is it possible for a cat to be this cute? Then I saw the description that says it's actually a dwarf leopard. I halve always dreamt of having anything half way close to a big cat as a pet, but I guess there is no way to it.
Where does this breed (I hate the word, oh well..) exist?

Incredibly cute as kittens Ocelots grow into beautiful cats but unfortunately they have been, and still are, victims of our mistaken notion that their fur looks better on a human female.
The Ocelot is a South American wild cat. Enjoy their photographs, you would be extremely lucky to see one in the wild and if you still want a cat as a pet get one from a rescue centre and please, please, please don't get a "manufactured" breed like the rag doll or the pathetic short legged cat. We can't improve on nature but we keep trying.

This is a beautiful photo. Would it be okay if I made a painting of it? I probably wouldn't sell it, at least not anytime soon. I would give you complete credit. It's fine if you aren't okay with it!

Sure thing Psychic Pineapple 51! I would be honored, even if you did sell it. One request though, send me a picture of the painting when it's finished!
