Believe it or not this is my first try painting with light. Not sure why it took me so long to give it a try.
I used a bike LED light. 20 second exposure. iso 100. f/13. 10mm (hence the warping in)
The star burst under the 'h' is the moon. I should have time it right so it could be the dot of my 'i'
The streak above the 'ago' is an airplane.
Need to try this some more when it's not 28F out. Fingers are now crunchy.

Even with all the light pollution I noticed you can actually see a decent amount of stars out tonight so I grabbed my camera and went to my roof and this is what I ended up doing. It was extremely windy so it was a challenge to stand still for the long exposure.

I plan to redo this when it's not January and crazy windy in Chicago.
I also thought of a new sunrise time lapse video idea that I can't wait to do once it warms up a bit.

Canon 7D - Sigma 8mm Fish eye, 15 second exposure.

Found a bunch of 8mm tapes from the 60's in my grandparents attic. Projected them on the wall and recorded them bootleg style with my Canon 7D. Did a quick edit and this is the result.

The main check in desk setup was screaming to be captured as well but the guy manning it didn't want me to take a picture when I asked him if I could. Next time I go, I'll try again.

BTW, admission to the Art Institute of Chicago is free to Illinois residents every weekday through February 10, 2012. And it's open till 8pm on Thursday if you work during the day. Go!
