I know what you mean. You don't get opportunities for shots like this very often.

On balance though I think I'd prefer to have the pier!

Amazing set, terribly sad, and I should imagine devastating for the Weston economy just at the beginning of the summer holiday season...

This is just so sad! I almost blubbed when I saw it on the BBC at work this morning. So, so sad to lose the pier and so devastating for Weston, so much worse than the flooding we had last year (and that was bloody awful!). *makes mental note to holiday there this year*
PS I thought of your pier animals Flickr set when I saw this on the news this morning! I think I may spend too much time on Flickr...

Weird, we were going to go to Weston on saturday but stayed in the pub saying we'd go next week. sad that this has been lost.

Thanks for the comments- it's so strange now that a few days have passed I find it harder to believe than when I was stood watching it.

bugsandfishes- I went to the re-opened pier today and discovered my favourite 'pier animal' is safe and well! I was SO excited I nearly cried!

This happened to the pier in my childhood hometown as well...I never got over how different the seafront looked when they tore it all down a few years later.

But when a pier burns at low tide like this, how do you get water out there to fight it? So sad. I enjoyed many a stroll along Weston's pier with my university girlfriend.
