The Departing Fleet

I wanted to try some sepia treatment on a couple of Tall Ship shots. This is the Parade of Sail leaving Narragansett Bay -- there is something noble and sad about ships sailing away.

The vessels from l. to r. : Tarangini, Gorch Fock II, Alabama, Bluenose (partially obscured by Alabama), Virginia, and the Spirit of Massachusetts.

Looks awesome in Sepia or color, but especially in sepia. Love how everything is lined up

Oh what a sight!!! i love sailing vessels and this time of year we usually get a visit from one or two....but nothing in this magnitude. What an amazing shot of them departing. I do like the sepia version, although both are nice. You sure live in a gorgeous area.....so nautical. I would be in 7th heaven if I lived there.

It is impossible to prefer the one for the other - the composition of this
photo is so great and both photos are brilliant.
The sepia makes it look like it was taken 100 years ago - and the
coloured like I was there and looked at the boats myself.

I'm sorry to hear you've lost the Spirit of Mass.... (was it wanted in RI anyway?) lol
The colors in the original are great, but the sepia gives it that timeless quality.... love it.

Well said. If I can go into the sleep I imagine myself a sailing ship on the sea who sail away. And the beach is sunny with palmtrees.
      It always have success.

Personally, I prefer the original, but the sepia treatment is very, very good, and makes the photo look like an old one of an armada. Wonderful shot!!

there is something about tall ships, ocean and clouds that makes me emotional, maybe reading all those seafaring adventures as a boy. the sepia enhances the image beautifully. it's wonderful.
