Some more info about the pic: This was taken 4 years ago with a nikon coolpix 950. This is a stitch of 2 pics so I don't have the EXIF info handy, but it was hand held - no tripod.

i really like this picture. the saturation smacks you between the eyes, and the row of streetlights makes a wonderful contribution to this great composition. the skyline is magnificent.

beautiful colours, good composition. The birds (I guess the spots in the sky are birds ...) should be removed, they are irritating.
but still:

I love the skyline part of the picture. I hate the overexposed sky in the left part of the picture. ....and there is some crap in the sky that should be removed, can't tell what it is... dust? UFO maybe?

I like it too. The image looks a bit soft at larger size, but the image is quite striking.

I don't know what to do with this. You can buy pictures like this, all the way across the coast from here to south-africa, in every touristshop. I would have loved to have taken one like this myself, although I don't like to look at them. The picture is perfect, but I wouldn't save it. I'd put a stamp on it and write on the back: "It's wonderful over here, we're having a great time!" So, this safe from the Deleteme! group: is it a drawer filled with old postcards? Or is it something else? I think it should be something else, so, I guess I have to:
vote "deleteme3"
but it's the best picture I've ever deleted.

It's hard to say delete me on this photo but there is something about it that just doesn't feel right to me.
1. I don't like the elongated crop (although this is just a stupid biased thing and I've got long cropped shots myself)
2. Although the contrast and saturation very well may be natural, they appear unnatural to me for some reason -- like they were bumped up just a wee bit too much.
3. I don't like the white part of the sky on the left. Again, no good technical reason why, just preference. I've suggested how I'd prefer to see it cropped.
A pretty good job overall and particularly strong building silhouette work. Still can't quite give it a save me. My first view of it I was pretty neutral on and actually skiped commenting on it but then on second thought I wanted too.
The photo is pretty strong and is close to the vault so hopefully my no vote doesn't mean that much.

Yeah, nice picture, but I'm gonna have to label it as postcard type stuff that holds very little interest for me. You only need one more to get in the safe, but it ain't me.

Agree with mmarchin. No go on the Chicago postcard.

I don't think that much of cityscapes even though I've taken a few of my own and they're some of my (annoyingly) more popular photos on flickr.
This one is damn good though, and I don't think it deserves deletion on the basis of being too much like a postcard. It is cliché and postcard-like but I don't think you're likely to find a better postcard of Chicago.
BTW, I think suggested crop is rubbish, keep it the way it is.
Now off to the safe with you!

I removed the suggested crop because notes on photos annoy me - not just this one, but all of them.

Thanks for the comments everybody. Ihave tosay that I was surprised at the level of support for this one. After all it is a sunrise. I was especially surprisedand grateful for KK's vote - I think he is currently at a 1:100 ratio of saves to delete's.
As to the comments themselves I don't think thatthe crop suggestion would have worked here. If I had to present it again I would clone out the birds - theyjust look like specks here anyway. I agree with some ofthe commentary suggestiing that it looks a bit overprocessed and maybe I could dial that down, but I think that this is the way I remember that morning.
You might have noticed the day I took this was September 12, 2001. I didn't sleep much the night before and got up early to goto work and this scene was unfolding as I was driving along Lake Shore Drive. I couldn't help but think to myself that despite all the evil, horrific things that we do to ourselves (and that others inflict upon us) it really is a beautiful world it we allow it to be. I know it's sentimental schlock. The morning I took this the sky was as vibrant and colorful as I have ever seen it here and it seemed to be saying that the world keeps on turning.
Thanks again for the good, the bad, and the ugly suggestions and votes.

This is one of the more pleasant sunrises I've seen. It goes to show that a sunrise/set can make it if it's good enough. Your story doesn't reak of sentimentality, it sounds quite truthful. Thanks.

Such colors from a Coolpix. Who woulda thunk it? As for the "over the top" comments -- forget it. Intense, yes. "Unrealistic" -- maybe. So what?
