Keep Calm And Carry On

This facsimile of an old World War 2 British Government (never issued) poster I bought from the fabulous Barter Books in Alnwick (pronounced "Anick"), a week or so back.

Barter books is a dream for someone like me – a converted old railway station full of secondhand books! There's a coffee point and open log fires. You can sit in the old station waiting room and read all day if you like. And of course you can buy books, if you've got the dosh.

Alnwick Castle, by the way, is Hogwarts and can be seen (CGI enhanced) in some of the Harry Potter movies.

The bookstore is beautiful. What an amazing history it has to it. I could get lost on their web site for hours (and can only imagine what the actual bookstore would do to me).

A motto for our new times? I came across you via Nasha65 (seems to be happenning a lot recently, she attracts quality I guess). Anyway, I really like this.

Wonderful poster, something which we (and our governments) ought to bear in mind now.

In NYC two days after 9/11, I spotted a note someone left on a wall: Stay calm, stay calm.
It has worked for me ever since, but this British poster is my new slogan.

I didn't see the poster during the war.
But I DID keep calm in spite of
      being eight at the time.
I am English and remember it all.
