write up and recipe here on muffin top. recipe also at epicurious. i didn't have almond extract...and then realized i didn't even have amaretto which i was counting on as a substitute. so i took a chance and used kirschwasser (a cherry brandy). it turned out just fine!

a buckle, fyi, is a dessert cake that is basically fruit (in this case plums) placed on top of cake batter (in this case one with almonds and flour)...during baking the cake rises and the fruit "buckles" in. hence, the name "buckle."
