The only thing that could have made this shot better was if this
original 76 Ball were dressed up as a Jack-o-Lantern for Halloween! I'm happy they saved the 76 Ball here when they
converted the Unocal (Formerly Union 76) stations to ConocoPhillips.
This was always a landmark for me because it was where you turned to
go east on Highway 118 before the freeway and bridges were finished in
the early 90's. You can still take the old road and that's a good
thing to have as an alternate route. Old maps show projected routes
for proposed freeways, Highway 118 west to Ventura and Highway 23
north to Fillmore. Since those plans were never completed, there is a
lot of truck traffic on the main roads through Moorpark. Interesting
that Union Oil began just north of here in Santa Paula in 1890.
