I think the current aspect ratio isn't doing it any favors, but it's a beautiful shot. Shame it's so small.
I felt I needed to qualify this a bit. I think the vignette is more pronounced in the horizontal axis, and that makes the extreme sides feel a little heavy and not really required, since the effect of a vignette is for the viewer to automatically discount what is darker anyhow. There are no hidden details in the darkest areas, for example, that would justify those areas remaining otherwise in this context. Maybe a crop or dial the vignette back just a bit could make it stronger.

@MonkeyDeus: I see what you mean; there's not a lot of detail to be found peripherally, anyway, so the use of the vignette might be somewhat excessive.
When I was editing this, I found it more aesthetically pleasing to add it. I considered cropping the right-hand side a fair bit, as much of it is just "wasted space" and excessively dark. However, my reservation of this was the fact that everything else, I felt, was well-positioned in the image. A crop would have offset the balance of this positioning, so I figured a vignette would accentuate the natural "framing" of the foliage. Perhaps it's too strong. I'll look over this again.

Blue japanese garden... This cold color you choose gives it an irreal, nocturnal, winter look!

Well-framed and seen. You might consider an elliptical frame as an alternative to the vignetting, if you are so inclined.

hmmm... I tend to like the heavy vignette - like a little window into another world (maybe the Ice Queen's world). But I am partial to vignettes... one of my many Photoshop addictions.
coulombic (42 months ago | reply)
I felt as if the heavy vignette worked well with the natural framing of the scene. Like you, I'm also terribly fond of vignettes, though I do try to control myself, as everything starts having the same "look" in my photostream after a while.

Nice IR shot! I see the EXIF info it is 1/100s shutter speed. Is it a modified 5D camera?
:)

Interesante y bella foto.
Yo probaría a mezclar una foto de infrarrojos con una normal, conseguirías muchos colores.
Saludos.
