Orchids, The American Orchid Society Magazine
Cattleya dowiana can be found in small quantities as result of forest felling and an historical massive recollection. Some specimens grows on Costa Rica's Atlantic low lands (talamanca, guapiles, san carlos, turrialba) between 80 and 1200 meters, thought it had been found very near from central valley (Cachi and Santiago), in Cartago. Those places are rain moderated (around 900 / 1200 mm a year) with a temperature going from 15 to 30 celsius degrees, and a humidity around 80% as average.
As if the picture was not enough to admire this flower, I will tell you that the best thing about C. dowiana is its aroma. It is unique so the bloom is a totally atonishing one.
