Virtualization helps a lot building and testing database replications and clustering.

I'm writing my Master's Thesis in CS about database performance and replication topologies. Virtualbox works like a dream in this situation. I do not need a real computer lab in testing.

In server I have dual core hyper-threaded processor => 4 threads in total. I have 4 virtual machines so that every machine is located physically in different hard drive. The performance is not equal to four real computers but it's not relevant now.

When I need to increase amounth of computers I can take the second real computer with four other virtual computers.
