I was playing with the Photographers Ephemeris and I noticed that the sun was going to set perfectly under Scripps Pier in La Jolla. Thinking I would get an original shot I strolled down to the beach 45 minutes before sunset only to see a field of tripods setup underneath the pier. Nevertheless, I was able to get a low spot in front of everyone and capture the sun at the perfect timing.
While we were waiting for the sun to set a series of clouds came up and blocked the light reaching Half Dome. Just when we thought all was lost, the clouds slowly dissipated and we were all witnesses to this beautiful orange and red glow lighting up the massive granite face of Half Dome.
Check out my Yosemite video here to see a time lapse of this scene at the 0:40 mark.
Over the weekend my wife and I drove out to Joshua Tree National Park. I don't think this park gets much press and I haven't seen many images of the park so I really didn't know what to expect. When we pulled into the park I was amazed. The Joshua Trees look like something from a Dr. Suess story and it was amazing how plentiful they were. I will definitely be going back some time soon!
