As ashes are put onto the forehead, the words "Dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return" are spoken.

Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, provides some with a reminder that they are pilgrims on a journey.

Don't you just love the last few moments of dusk, the moments allocated for our sighs?

Still Life

Still Life

Round 18 Get Pushed Challenge

In this round I was paired with Tina (Tinina67) who has a very artistic photostream and posed the following push:

"So how can I challenge you? I give you two choices:
a) a still life; all up to you if classic (dead duck, skull, flowers etc.) or not, in colour or not etc..
or
b) create a photo similar to the paintings by Carl Spitzweg : "The Bookworm" , "The poor Poet" and "The Hypochondriac" are great examples of his humour, but again it's your choice."

I chose the painting challenge as my main one, and as shown in my last image "The sociable one".
But I also think this still life was too good to toss. So please forgive this second upload on the same push. What makes this image interesting for me is that these daffodils have exactly that, a "still life", as they are just ready to pop into blossoms, that "deep breath before the plunge".

Much better in lightbox. Please press L.
Thank you.

I was intrigued by the painting push. Mr. Spitzweg is known for his satirical paintings which depict sharply characterized eccentrics.

I hope Tina finds that I approached Spizweg's satirical style, though this may strike too close to home to be humorous for some.
