The Grand Scene Of Things

The photographs reflect that of my personal passion for the pursuit of intimate experience of the natural environment. In these moments there is an awareness of being in the present locale and connecting with the environment that surrounds me. Just for a moment, the realization of where I am in relation to the surroundings reminds me of the grand scene of things from a different perspective. I am not simply a viewer, but a small, yet integral aspect of the environment.

The collection of photos are taken from the subjects matters with which I am familiar with and actively participate in - rock climbing, surfing, back country hiking and camping, and mountain biking. All are activities that incorporate developing knowledge and an understanding of the relationship between my capabilities and limits as a person within the environment I participate in. The photos are the moments that I am able to witness someone doing just that. Their presence becomes a full vision of it - the landscape, the activity, the concentration and sometimes the difficulty, in all its entire. The sum of all the pieces really makes up the grand scene.

My goal for these images is to attract a sense of our place in the environment. How small we are in relation to the grand scene of things, and yet how well we integrally fit in.
