Sgt Wayne 'Mave' Rees & Sgt Sid Gould (Standing)
We had a down day in Basrah and decided to make a calendar in response to one a riding club had sent us.
This photo captures Maves cheeky side. The one that got him in to so much trouble and passed for promotion so many times.
It took us a while to finally get this shot. Hindered by much giggling and comments like, "Stop touching me with it".
Mave was killed only a few days after this shot was taken.
He was a great leader and the best soldier I've ever met in my life.
A true celebrity within the regiment. Always cracking jokes and making everyone laugh.
He was the first person I met in the regiment when I joined and I spent every day there with him as he was my Troop Sergeant.
I left at the end of December to fly back on R&R. Quickly rushing around to jump on my helicopter out of the desert.
His last words to me were, "Have a good one".
I didn't know that would be the last time I'd see him.
R.I.P Mave.
Gone, but never forgotten.
