The Tier III WTA Wismilak tournament at Bali was a breather for me. I only had the chance to watch the quarterfinal matches. Quite different to the huge arenas of Flushing Meadows in the US Open, the center court of Grand Hyatt is intimate and allowed me to sit right in front of the match. I don't have an expensive zoom lens but the one I had worked just fine in bringing the action home. Having been a fervent follower of tennis online (I check sports.yahoo.com/ten everyday), I know sports photography is difficult. The hardest part is missing on the action as I tried to time and compose shots.

Ms Bremond is currently ranked 56. One of the stunners in the tournament, the French player was however no match to the eventual champion world number 5 Svetlana Kuznetsova who overpowered her 6-3 6-2.

(Work has overtaken my priorities lately and I can't believe that it has been 9 days since I last posted! I will try to download more pictures as soon as I get back to Cebu tonight.)

by the way, I have a 70-300mm ISM lens which is as soft as most blogs or reviews have complained. but it is the only one I can afford for $250. l have learned to live with it. I am not complaining at all. and strangely, I don't do multiple burst shots.

sports photography is just so difficult. I have a renewed respect for sport photographers. they surely lose a lot in not being able to enjoy the action while trying to get that all elusive shot.

I only saw the quarterfinals and semifinals as I have to leave for Surabaya during the Sunday finals. too bad.
