demure by Farl.
In a museum such as the Met, there are innumerable art installations obscured by famous masterpieces. In one of the walls for instance, stood a magnificent stained glass window that was literally lifted from an Italian chapel built in the Middle Ages. How it found its way to New York one can only imagine. Inevitably, I was drawn to a demure depiction of Mary. This is actually a closeup as the face is no more than 5 inches wide.

There are so many italian pieces of art, painting, sculptures, reliqua been kept in other countries' museums... one among all? Leonardo's Monnalisa is in Paris at "Le Louvre". I know this is not just about italian art but every country has many of its masterpieces out of their borders: it would be great if there was a way to have them back... : /
Anyway: nice, sharp picture of a great piece of art and history!

Lovely, sweet, beautiful photo! Stained glass can be rather challenging..

tonnoz - The Boston Museum of Fine Arts is just about to return some significant pieces of Italian art to Italy. There's _some_ movement towards your wish.

It's very evocative. At first glance I thought it was a sculpture. As to how it go to New York city, I always found it interesting to see the amount of exquisite stuff wealthy Americans have been able to buy, and place in their museums, and in some cases assemble in one place outside normal museums (eg the Cloisters or the Hearst Castle).

Beautiful picture Farl with amazing details. how your eyes captured this tiny 5 inch wide face hidden by other masterpieces I cannot imagine. you've been in Philly area? I'd love to see your pictures of my beloved city if you post some...I've left it a week ago and I already miss the hot and humid weather !!

hey, I am back. well, almost. thanks for the words everyone!

my pics in NY, Philly and Maine are disappointing as the weather was always overcast or wet but I will post some soon.

smileeey- the kit lens is what I used here. I use that 90% of the time. I love the sharpness. my only other lens is the relatively cheap 75-300mm (soft) telephoto one.

yes farl, demure is what she is. i almost feel sorrow for her, being obscured in a place like that. surely thats one of the angles your accompanying narrative is taking, (or, maybe its just me again) and it has really touched me. :) the narrative and her eyes.
