What Can We Do With Flickr?

This cluttered desk represents just a small set of powerful ways you can use flickr. This image has been annotated with "notes", so as you move a mouse over hotspot areas, pop-up messages will appear, some of them with links that can take you elsewhere.

Explore these links to learn some ways you can leverage the power of flickr.

I am clearly not the first to say this, and I suspect I wont be the last, but this is brilliant! Thank you for creating and sharing this.

Have you considered adding this to the Flickr For Education pool?

I've just written about this image in my blog. Thank-you for sharing the image under a Creative Commons license.

This is a brilliant resource, thank you so much for creating this. I will definately be using this to encourage collegues to use Flickr.

Can you adjust the notes on the business card and the mobile phone please? I can't click on the links because it moves onto the next note. Thanks!

  9. cogdogblog (80 months ago | reply)

Thanks David-- this is just building upon the work of others. I just added it o the Flickr for Ed group, thanks for reminding me of that group.

Digitalkatie- I cannot replicate the rollover problems (even in Internet Explorer, usually the culprit!), but have tried to move the hotspot areas farther apart. The key is to try and move your mouse from the hotspot area, over the yellow portion of the note, and then move to the link.... if you roll away from the yellow, you might be losing the note.

But I am just guessing.... this may be a good point to keep in mind, and maybe too many notes are a problem too.

  10. digitalkatie (80 months ago | reply)

Thanks. The mobile phone is better, but when I roll over the business card to get to the yellow note it often moves onto the screwdriver note, although it seems to work if I do it quickly!

Great stuff... I think that flickr has some powerful uses when it comes to syndication. With its extensive API, there are tons of great widgets for embedding flickr content. Also check out http://flickrhacks.blogspot.com for some good tips!

can i blog this to www.habit47.vox.com, please?

  20. cogdogblog (77 months ago | reply)

Yes, but you do not need to ask permission; it is inherent in the Creative Commons license and enabled via the flickr Blog This button.

    Blog away, happy day.

You can also view EXIF data and link to other photos taken with the same make and model. And you can search maps by multiple fields! See interesting photos taken in your own backyard!

After seeing this I have been trying to find something that easily ties in to use this feature of flickr with my students.

We're working on labeling angle drawings right now with the notes. It has been working great. Great job done by all of the ability levels in my classroom. I haven't gotten to the point of allowing them to make flickr accounts at school (yet), and I haven't received an email from IT (yet) about my account being logged in to 16 computers ;)
    Our Angle Drawings

  23. cogdogblog (76 months ago | reply)

Hey Mr Williams-- that is really neat! I see the kids did the drawings (nice variety)... did they also identify the angles?

  24. mrwilliams (76 months ago | reply)

Yes (but we're still working on it). They were suppose to put a note on each angle with the degrees and labeling the angles (acute, right, obtuse, straight). If we were doing this longer I'd invite you to come in to my classroom (about 51st ave & northern), but we'll be wrapping this up soon (and I know your pretty busy ;) ).
