After winning the Swe Barista Cup last year I was selected to be part of the 2011/2012 four person National Barista Team. Our mission was to compete together at the Nordic Barista Cup and also to represent specialty coffee as best we could.
I've been lucky to have had many oppertunities to be interviewed in magazines and TV to talk about coffee. Every time it was possible I've asked to be presented as "member of the swedish national barista team". It's a great way to communicate that - to start with - there is a national barista team, but also that there is more to coffee than meets the eye. That there is always more to discover.
Recently I've had the chance to take part in a morning TV show and talk about coffee to the TV channel's chef. Today's episode was about that different origins give us different taste. We worked in a bit of coffee / food pairing as well. "What coffee goes well with my sourdough bread or my strawberries?" for example.
To my fellow baristas I have to say: however you choose to communicate, whatever the medium - don't forget our one simple and most important talking point. It's about the coffee!
