In August, 2007, Executive Director, Carolyn Fairman, visited the Agrarian Coffee Cooperative (COCLA) in Quillabamba, Peru. COCLA marks Coffee Kids first foray into South America. The exceptional isolation of the nine communities served by COCLA's health care project for women was palpable as Fairman rode 10 hours from Cusco through 11,000-foot passes and secluded mountain valleys before finally arriving at San Fernando, a tiny village with no electricity.

COCLA's women's project coordinator, Eulalia Valdez Palomino, works with three trained health care professionals from the surrounding communities to provide health services to community members. Together Eulalia and her team are training women in the region about preventive health care and helping set up local pharmacies. With this project families will have affordable, local access to health care.
