Please Read Me

One of Canada's leading female singers (and a personal favourite of mine), Sarah Mclachlan has launched a new video clip for her song 'World on Fire'.

Her video clip only cost her 15$ to make.

We live in a world where there are still human beings that do not have enough food, shelter, medication and proper education.

We live in a world where we are all interconnected and we can make personal contributions no matter the scale or type.

"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." (Sir Winston Churchill)

This video clip takes no more than 5 minutes to watch_ if this clip has touched you, pass it around to your friends... sometimes we need to take a moment in our lives and stop and really see what is around us... (and be thankful for what we have- I think we, flickr users, should all be as we've got cameras, computers, access to the net...I think that pretty much says it...)

Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.

LISTEN - WATCH - READ- SHARE

This really puts things into perspective... www.worldonfire.ca

If you have taken the time to STOP here, thank you... I hope this image of mine gets the most hits_ even though it's not exactly a photo...

    Carla

(I have chosen to post this in certain groups_ I know it is not really a photo but please don't remove it from the group(s) and help me spread the word... thank you...)

World On Fire (lyrics by Sarah Mclachlan)

The worlds on fire it's more then I can handle
I'll tap into the water try and bring my share
Try to bring more, more then I can handle
    Bring it to the table
    Bring what I am able

Hearts are worn in these dark ages
You're not alone in these stories pages
The light has fallen amongst the living and the dying
And I'll try to hold it in
Yeah I'll try to hold it in

I watch the heavens but I find no calling
Something I can do to change what's coming
Stay close to me while the skys falling
I don't wanna be left alone don't wanna be alone

Hearts break hearts mend love still hurts
Visions clash planes crash still there's talk of
saving souls still colds closing in on us

We part the veil on our killer sun
Stray from the straight line on this short run
The more we take the less we become
The fortune of one man means less for some

I have just viewed the video clip and,Yes! your comments about how privileged we are to have flickr, computers etc. really hit home with me. I get annoyed when flickr runs slowly sometimes, or I missed my favorite TV program. If that is all I have to worry about....
I do have a poster on the wall above my computer that reads " We should be thankful for all the good things we have, and also for the bad things we don't have"
Thank you so much for caring about the world and sharing this with us. You are the best!

Wow! Sarah has always been one that I listen to and I have not heard nor sean that video until now. Very touching. And to me, means a lot. I was a missionary for seven years in Europe where life is not that hard, and I have had friends that were missionaries in Kenya. I can not have children and adoption is what I have been looking into so that has touched me in a hard (good) way.
Very neat video, and eye opener to those that don't know what goes on in some of the other countries.
Yes, we are all so blessed with many things in life and we take for grantite the things that we have. A dollar makes the biggest difference to other people. That is one thing that as a girl I remember telling my mom when we were missionaries, I asked her, "if ever person donated $1.00 to us, we would be able to pay all of the bills, eat and be able to save some money for the hard months," the answer was yes.
Thanks a lot for sharing your video.
      Catrina

thank you to all who have stopped by...

@Catrina Spizzirri: thank you for sharing your thoughts here_ no comment is ever long enough ;) If every person thought like you (give a 1$... something I think we all can do from time to time) we would be maybe in a better place... I hope that you will find a very special child to adopt... thank you again for your comments

@dalmdad: I am sorry you feel this way. It is true that this is not a photo taken with a camera, but it is an image, a picture... I came accross something so powerful that I wished to share it with as many for I feel we live in a world where people are not that aware of everything at times.... I have been sharing this link and my thoughts on other sites on the net already, but I figured since I am a flickr user, I could expand the message even more... I may be using this site to post something a little unconventional to the site but it's for a GOOD CAUSE and people seem to be responding positively to it (Life is not always black & white). I think anyone who has compassion wouldn't be so bothered that this is here... I am sorry again that you feel this way but I appreciate your honesty...

quicktime is not the best choice for spreading a message to the world. :(

    34. cocolinda (70 months ago | reply)

thank you to all who dropped by and took the time to watch this video...

@xurde: there is no specific way to spread a message- as long as one can spread a message with whichever tools they have, that's what counts... ;)

    35. digitalvolume (70 months ago | reply)

Generally I like her site. The video was touching. And I already support people for many of these causes.

She needs to change the color of the links on her fund breakdown page though. You can't read what they say on that background.

xurde, I agree with coclinda on this one. Plus anyone sho has iTunes or has purchased a PC from HP/Compaq, Sony, or IBM/Lenovo has Apple's QuickTime software already. That's Millions of people in a demographic which tends to have the most cash 'untied'.

Outside of that, I agree that offering the video in other formats would be a decent move, but would likely have raised the cost from $15 to ensure the codecs used were of highest quality and popularity prior to distribution.

I think it's fine the way it is, and likely reaches everyone intended.

It's outrageous and a sign of ignorance to quote Winston Churchill. He was the first to advocate the gassing of the Kurds, he was the one who said that Mussolini was the 'greatest legislator in Europe'. He was the one who mobilized the army to crush the workers in Britain!

Coco....i see words running to get caged and write anything on this stupendous video. The developed world however is lucky not to witness this onslaught on mind and soul as compared to the developing countries like India, Africa, ad many parts of Asia....but the efforts by every individual would be worth a try with this message and many more done on similar lines.
I would like to share a small such story about the like minded flickr users coming together and working for one good cause in Pune, India. Recently, we (PhotographersatPune also called P@P) had our first photo exhibition held with over 35 participants displaying their photos. The chief guests to inaugurate the exhibition were 25 students who were differentially abled. They were very happy to be the part of this exhibition and more so on the lunch served to them with sweets. Many our our members would know learn their language and try them to bring in the main stream society by giving them the much needed jobs. Future is unpredictable, but atleast a try is must.
Many thanks for sharing this video and whosoever thinks this as a PR or publicity exercise are requested to come and see the bare naked world with eyes full open......
