Glowing Crystals, Quartz Giant
A macro shot into the edge of a giant quartz specimen standing about 5 foot tall at the entrance of the River Park Inn, Tucson, Arizona. The image was shot in the dark, and the glow comes from nearby lights for the lobby entrance. Each of these quartz crystal spears measure about 3" to 5" in length. From the 2007 Tucson Rock and Gem Show.

Very cool - do they ever take the crystals and put a light inside of them? I have a salt crystal like that.

I don't usually see such hard crystals as these carved out for light inside, but there are many halite and similar salt crystals presented this way. There is a big commercial trend right now on lighted crystals for the interior decoration interest and also for the metaphysical folks who believe that the vibrations or aromatherapy attributes contribute to health and spirituality.
Usually the lighting on massive crystal specimens such as these are the lighting displays one would use with any sculpture. Thanks for asking, Zee.

Well, so nice to know other folks like these wonders of nature! I've been working again on all my 800 or so images from the Tucson Rock and Gem Show. Felt like working on rock images, a break from the macros of flowers I've been posting lately. Thank you all for your visits and support.
