Starry Night: Pettable Cactus

Called this one "Starry Night" for all I could see were zillions of perfect little stars arrayed in a pleasing pattern. These small cactus are about 3" diameter, all in a sale tray at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. The horticulturist there names the plants and these had little ID stakes with "Pettable cactus" printed. In the lower right corner you see a peeking pink bloom on another of these cactii in the tray. The ones that had blooms had rings of the scarlet blooms around them.

If you like macros of desert plants, many are coming along. The previous one I like for different reasons, seen here.

Thanks again for all the visitors and comments. I wish I could get the rest of the cactus and desert plant photos up, but I've got heavy chores to finish tonight and it may be a while. But I do have several coming late tonight that are of a yellow wasp I found while I was busy shooting cactus macros. See you later online.

the set is wonderful -- i'm glad the teacher in you comes out on flickr! I love the symmetry of nature and one of the places it's super evident is in the shapes of cacti. These are so beautiful -- and beautifully shot.
