Hurricane Ike

GALVESTON, Texas - A Coast Guard HU-25 Falcon jet crew flew over Galveston Island near Galveston, parts of which were damaged or destroyed during Hurricane Ike, to assess damage to communities, critical infrastructure and waterways, Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008.

crazy how some of the houses seem perfictly preserved. I bet some of the people who thought putting houses on stilts was an just a cute local eccentricity are pretty happy now.

I hope they have sense enough not to rebuild on such an unsafe place. But they will. Stilts were obviously a good idea. I wish they would use this land for parks and campgrounds and other non- permanant structures. Impressive photo.
