without doing the HDR Stuff.....I really
think your images are great but the HDR thing
kind of ruins it for me.......unless it's a
style you really like.....

Gorgeous colors! But, as Natureshooter says,
the HDR makes it look a little too saturated.
Nevertheless, this picture is great.

Thanks for the good feedback. Negative
feedback helps a lot more than comments like
"nice shot", so I appreciate it a
lot! I wish I could do the same for you;
however, this shot looks great. I've never
been a big HDR fan, but you definitely didn't
over-do it here like some people tend to do.
The composition fits well and the colors are
amazing.
The only drawback in my view is the trees
getting burnt out by the bright sunset in the
back, but the sky is fine, so it works.

At that point, the sun had mostly risen, but
not enough to be casting shadows everywhere.

My personal taste is for a more
"realistic" use of colours. One can
use HDR subtly to get the best of both
worlds, but this image is a bit too colourful for me. In a way, it's an abuse of
the technology. It's a brilliant composition,
however, so I'll award it 9/10.

For those asking for the original:
This is the "-1" E.V. the other
two (0, +1) are very over exposed.
Without using HDR, I would have had to
throw these away, as the lighting &
exposure was just too far off for me to do
anything with.

It's interesting to see the -1 EV shot,
Chris. I didn't even know what HDR stood for
till a couple of days ago, so I looked it up.
The technique sounded fascinating, and that
Photmatix app sounds like a nice piece of
kit. Does you camera automatically take the
three exposures (I've heard of Sony cameras
that do that) or do you use a tripod and take
three differently exposed shots manually?
I'm not sure I could be bothered with all
the fuss, but then again, I'm not trying to
create colourfests that could be used in
brochures or in adverts. I'm rambling as
usual, but I would just say again that I
think it's easy to overdo the HDR treatment,
leaving an image that looks too unreal. Your
finished article here might actually be
slightly more pleasant if you reduced the
saturation after all the layers have been
combined. The wheels of the tractor are quite
offensive to my eyes, to be honest. An old
machine like that just shouldn't have vibrant
wheels! :)

I like the fact it's OTT, the saturated
colours make the image almost like a
painting. I'ts down to personal preference
but I find it appealing and has a surreal
feeling, the original doesn't have the same
punch!!
