Isle of Man - May 1982
|
See this set as a slideshow
I had a four day 'Golden Rail' holiday
to the Isle of Man from 4th - 7th May
1982. The train from London, ferry
crossings and hotel and evening meal for
four nights cost me all of £75.
Apart from a very rough crossing, which
is best forgotten, I was blessed with
good weather for most of the time,
although it was a little cold at times.
At one point I'd never been so glad to
see the arrival of a Leyland National
for the journey from Ramsey to Peel: I
headed straight for the back seat to
warm up with the heat from the engine.
Being only 22 and not being able to
hire a car I was limited to public
transport, and being early May the
summer services (and Snaefell Mountain
Railway) hadn't commenced for the
season.
Nevertheless my trip was perfectly
timed and I was in seventh heaven with
the variety of older buses in service...
not to mention the steam railway the
electric railways etc.
These slides haven't seen the light of
day for probably 20 years or more, and
it gives me pleasure to share them.
There were getting on for 200 frames, so
it is a slow job scanning them all, but
they are being added as and when.
