GPS route tracking with a phone / 2

GPS route tracking with a phone / 2 by clickykbd.
Here is a test route I did with the tracking software and the N82. No photos this time so look forward to trying that integration, but biked from home to take my IATSE journeyman's test at the AFL-CIO building in Austin. See the previous description for more details about what this is all about. Watch my profile for future experiments with this stuff.

So this is the Nokia project: I see artistic potential in this!

Ever heard about situationistic artists, dadaist walks?

Those crazy frenchmen who would start off in some location and then walk on a straight line no matter what's on their way?

You could draw on maps ;)

drawing on maps was something that immediately occurred to me when I heard about the GPS tools, but even more so in seeing their interface. All stuff to consider. I've also considered combining that pseudo-aerial technique we spoke of with AutoStitch and creating ultra-zoomed-in "paths" that mimic a satellite's perspective. The phone/cam has 10sec 30sec, 1min, 5min, 10min, and 30min time lapse modes (until memory is full) which could come in handy for taking pictures when I can't reach the camera.

Even just mapping the route of "intentionally getting lost" would be an interesting thing to view. I don't know if they will want the tracking tool on and "live" the whole time or if I will be free to start and stop routes in quick succession... it can run in background mode so it wouldn't prevent other phone usage.

It's when they start implanting them under the skin I'd be a bit concerned. Who has access to all the information of your every move?

I see on the graph the 'regular' stops - out of breath or traffic lights?

How did the test go?

traffic lights... grrr.

Yeah. I'm actually quite a privacy advocate... so this project is a little over-the-top in terms of hyper-connectedness, an interesting experiment to try out once (especially considering I could never afford all the hardware on my own).

is also the tracking tool provided with some setting allowing for a finer/denser granularity of data? (ie: does the GPS link work at fixed, or possibly adjustable time intervals?)

re: privacy: I can see the irony.

@dario. It does have 3 degrees of path "averaging"... which is probably an effort to even out the satellite noise... but haven't tried a route yet on anything other than the "high" setting. Traditionally satellites are only about as accurate as 5-6 meters... but it uses multiple, and may even get some assistance triangulating off cell towers.

re: privacy... could always mapdraw the expression "Privacy?" But seems to obvious. ;-)

Wow this looks very cool - I've not come across this before but it's just another reason I'm looking forward to getting an N95...
