March of the Baby Turtles

March of the Baby Turtles by Clearly Ambiguous.
My wife was walking the dogs this morning, when one of the dogs discovered a bunch of baby turtles that had just hatched.

Bad news is it's on a southern slope which points toward the street. I rescued about 8 of the little fellows that had dropped off the curb into the leaves in the gutter. There were already 3 dead ones in the road. I set them in the woods pointing back toward the creek as I snapped photos. Based on my 2 minute Internet research, the look like they might be a snapping turtles?

I took a bunch more photos... I'll post them in the thread below.

Reminded me of Finding Nemo, the little crazy weird turtle on that movie is amazing.

Very nice shot. And adorable. The others are cute too. They look like snappers to me. The long claws, ridged shell, and long tail distinguish them.

Fabee, what a *great* movie...
CRUSH - Oh, saw the whole thing, dude. First you were like, 'whoa'! And then we were all like,
'whoa'! And then you were like, 'whoa'.
MARLIN - What're you talking about?
CRUSH - You, mini-man. Takin' on the jellies. You got serious thrill issues, dude.

Thanks Cocoabiscuit!

S&G, yeah I thought they kinda looked like snappers... but i'm clueless. Just ask my kids :-)

She was inches away from being run over, and like yours, newly hatched with the egg sack still attatched to her stomach.

great photos.

Thanks donnacnd. It does sound like a Ranger Rick story doesn't it? I hadn't really considered submitting anything... Too many other to-dos on the list.

these are definetely baby snapping turtles....they are so cute! My daughter had one a few weeks ago that she caught at a nearby pond. She kept him for a few days, showed him to everyone and then put him back in the pond.
