If you don't have a smile, I'll give you one of mine. [Cropped]

I went ahead and gave cropping
this photo a try, to see how it would look, I think I like the overall effect more. I also added focus and made the color slightly warmer.
I like it quite a bit more, actually. Especially large version.
But then again, im no expert. Advice anyone? Did I ruin it? Prefer the original? Let me know, friends. Say whatever, I won't be offended. :)
Oh and,
Was taken on a recent trip to Mexico, working at Vacation Bible Schools there... Thus the girls in the background. They were doing crafts.

very nice.
I know even less about photography than you
do, but try blurring the background just a
little more. good idea? bad idea?

Clay. I assume there was an uncropped
version which I did not see. This is very
good. One guideline for photos is to fill
the frame, which you did admirably. The
small amount of background material give the
photo life. Overall, very good. Now learn
to compose in the camera and you won't have
to crop.

I went back and found the other one. In that
one the subject was centered and there was
background clutter on both sides of him.
Much better here.

I agree, this is a great crop. And I'll
admit that when I used film, I was WAY more
conscious of composing as I shot. But that's
also a way to lose the moment, so I say, crop
away!
I just looked at the large size--this is an
incredibly sharp photo "even the hairs
of his head are numbered..."
(and, you can always take several, one as a
safety shot, and then set up the next ones
more deliberately)

Stunning photo. That's a magic moment, right
there.
It does look better cropped, that way you
focus more on the boy and less on the
background, which I feel detracts from the
photo.

I agree with the others mr Clayton. The crop
is much better. It fills the frame better
& shifts the focus out of the center of
the frame, much more interesting. Good trip
too.
