The walk between the two highest peaks on the island of Madeira is wonderful, with huge vistas across rugged volcanic terrain with sharp peaks and tremendous chasms. The trouble is, the area is frequently shrouded in fog and you don't know this until you get there - which is once you've paid for the 45 minute taxi trip from Funchal (the capital of the tiny Portuguese colony). During my 10 days on the island we made 3 trips to the top to do the walk, and the first two were abandoned due to fog. Shots from the successful trip to follow (should I manage to unearth the negs). The shot above is from attempt number 1.
