No HDR here. It was taken in 1987, nineteen
years before I started using HDR. The scan
from slide has used some "curve"
adjustment though that does some of the
tricks of HDR.
Thanks Oat! How to get there etc? Claustral
is one of the most famous slot canyons in the
Blue Mountains. Nevertheless it is serious
wilderness and getting there requires
abseiling skill, good skills with map and
compass and a fair amount of equipment. This
is not the place to learn to abseil! A number
of people have died there due to falls and/or
flash floods. So please, if you would like to
visit, hitch up with one of the more
experienced commercial groups after you've
learnt some rope basics. I have placed it on the map if you want to
know where it is, though this is only
approximate due to the low resolution of
Yahoo! maps in this areas.

Claustral Canyon! Yay! I nearly got hypothermia there about 25 years
ago, with the ANU Mountaineering Club. It is
a beautiful canyon. Doubt I'd manage it these
days. Thanks for the memory.
This is one of the best piece of work on
Australia!!! Please take a moment to join Best of Australia (By invitation only) we'd love to have this photo added to our

I have come back to this photo several times
now... it never ceases to amaze me. I'm
contemplating doing a canyoning course this
year and buying a EWA housing for my old mans
Ricoh so I can go and take some of these
types of images.... they are incredible.
What an amazing scene... I love the rays of
light streaming through.. brilliant! So
brilliant in fact that I consider this image
to be one of Australia's best. As seen in Best of Australia

Very romantic and like a lost world. I keep expecting fairy tale characters to step into the light.

Your composition (ie, including just the right amount of foreground) offsets the brilliant light very effectively.
