scuzzi - i never got the big bun there. always only got the roast pork. the big bun at east buffet is good. still the best big gun is from east river. sadly it's no longer there. i want big bun badly. i made the old man drive around chinatown for an hour to find one on sun. didn't find one. :(

yeah, they are hard to find now. too bad east river is gone now. that place was good. but from all the places, east buffet is still the best bet. though their buffet part now sucks.

i went here 2day after seeing your post, but the big bun was really bad. chicken was kinda old and dry, and the bun was 2 yeasty. the steamed pork bun was good though. thank god.

bionicgrrl - ohh that totally sucks! i've heard a lot of bad stories about their big buns now. scuzzi got one back in september and it looked nothing like a big bun. very sad looking. i dunno if they changed their chef or just got really really cheap. but i'm glad you like the roast pork bun. that's still a fav.

Oh, yes. It's usually crowded when I go, but it's worth the wait. I was disappointed with the big bun last time, too much dough, too little filling. That could have been a one time thing.

Mei Lai Wah

I guess I was there in September. That's when I took that photo.

I won't be able to go until next year. I'm still cleaning out my old apartment and unpacking in my new place.

Congratulations!

gothamist.com/2008/05/09/closed_mei_lai.php

The sad part is that they are now gone. I'll miss them. With the closing of May May and Mei Lai Wah, part of classic Chinatown is gone. I fear for what still remains.
